Feelin’ Hot Hot Hot! I’d like to take the chance to welcome all of the Doha new-comers who are arriving during this scorching month, as it seems there are a bunch of new ladies on the information boards expecting to join us before the school year. To the new ladies, just remember, the weather only gets better after this! Also, be sure to come out to the coffee mornings and other events to meet us and make some new friends. The Doha Summer Festival is still on for a few more weeks to help provide a bit of air-conditioned entertainment, then the whole world will be glued to their televisions with minds in the Olympics in Beijing.

Personally, I hope to travel to the US for a few weeks, to escape the heat, but nothing is firm, so I may just be around Doha for the entire summer after all. In my mind I have already traveled home, as you will see from the travel article featuring my favorite city, New York.

With school out, and it’s too hot to play outside very long, how can we keep the kids entertained? We have put together a list of camps and activities that we know of going on in Doha. If you happen to know of any more, please let us know, so we can share the information with everybody.

August Events: August is our last quiet month before back to school and Ramadan. Of course, our regular events are going strong. The weekly Wednesday coffee mornings are at Le Nôtre in Villagio at 10:00. We have also started a weekly Mom &Tots group at 9:30 on Mondays. The meetings are rotating between members’ houses, so be sure to check the events board for the specific location each week. Our Movie Night will be as usual, on the 3rd Sunday of the month, August 17th. Plus, don’t forget to refer to the Events page for details about the August Girls’ Night Out.

Last month in review: Our July evening events were a blast. As always, we had a great time at the Girls’ Night Out. We met up for a lovely dinner at Il Rustico in the Rydges, and then made a brief appearance upstairs at Aussie Legends. We shared great stories, a lot of laughs, and yummy food and drink. Meredith graciously hosted our movie night, where we met anxiously awaiting Sex and the City. In addition, Gill re-ignited the Mom & Tots mornings, which promise to take off.

New to the Magazine: In this month’s magazine, Travel to New York City and Souq Waqif. Plus, explore the interesting unique sport of Water Polo in time for the Beijing Games. On the Health page find out How to Protect your Eyes from the Sun.

Have a great August!
